Interior Paint Color Trends for 2023
So, you’re ready for a new look in your home… Maybe your walls are tired, worn, dated, or all of the above, and you’ve been collecting ideas for fresh color, just waiting for inspiration to strike.
At John Byrne Painting, we have a front row seat when it comes to watching paint color trends come and go, plus the benefit of working closely with design professionals. We’d like to pass some of that insight along to you, plus a few specific examples of colors that are topping the charts right now.
Quick snapshot: which interior paint colors are most popular?
For the last few years light neutrals like white and gray have dominated the scene. They’re always in style, don’t get us wrong, but they were particularly emphasized, and even were named Color of the Year by several major paint manufacturers. Why? Well, they’re timeless, attractive, clean, and bright. Plus they play really well with others, meaning that any other colors or textures you want to introduce will work. No fear of clashing when your walls are soft white.
That’s all changing these days.
White and gray are still trendy, but they aren’t a focal point anymore. We’re seeing a shift toward bolder, warm colors. They’re often rooted in nature too. Maybe it’s because people want a calming palette, and earthy colors have been shown to reduce stress and offer a feeling of relaxation. Who knows, right?
Blue and green are particularly popular, ranging from soft sage to bold emerald, pale sky blue to deep royal. Interestingly enough, blue and green are very popular for kitchen cabinets too.

Redend Point: Sherwin-Williams’ 2023 Paint Color of the Year
Take a look at Sherwin-Williams’ flagship color for 2023: Redend Point. Ask three different people what color it reminds them of and you’ll probably get three different answers. Sherwin-Williams describes it as a “blushing neutral”; beige with a touch of pink. However you see it, it’s definitely a winner. Watch the quick video below to learn more and see it used in a variety of spaces.
Raspberry Blush: Benjamin Moore’s 2023 Paint Color of the Year
Take that “blush” color to a whole new level and you have Benjamin Moore’s top pick of the year. Walking more on the red side, it’s bright and bold but still soft. Definitely not a “loud” choice.
This video offers a fun look at their 2023 color lineup, all set to an electro-funk backdrop. Definitely worth checking out.
